Paintings of Peder Balke ( Norwegian )

09 Feb

As we seem to be finding ourselves in the Scandinavia area thought I woud show another Scandinavian Artist this tome from a You Tube Video.

Some Fascinating glimpses of Landscape and seascape. very Dramatic.
The paintings seem bound in the romantic tradition and according to one review bare a resemblance to Turner even though the Artist himself visited London 1849/1850 he does not mention Turner.

About Chris

Chris, thanks for your note about the Australian bushfire painting by John Longstaff. I think you are quite correct about the untamed aspect of Nature and the artist’s response. You have cited Turner in your post as well :)

I will add a post about Romantic Art straight away and perhaps make as assessment whether Australian art could ever have been influenced by European Romanticism of not.

    again thanks
